Welding represents a significant portion of the time and manpower required during field construction of large storage tanks. Bygging's range of mechanised and automatic welding equipment is designed to increase welding productivity, improve weld consistency and reduce dependence on manual welding for long shell and bottom joints.

Submerged arc automatic girth welding (AGW) machine

Bygging's compact Submerged Arc Welding Tractor can be used for tank-bottom plate welding and for shell-to-annular plate welding from the inside or outside of the tank.

For tanks erected top-down, automatic welding can be integrated directly with the hydraulic jacking sequence. Bygging's retractable jacks are specifically designed to create clearance between the jack trestles and shell after external welding, allowing an AGW to travel along the internal tank circumference and complete the internal horizontal weld.
